Worship Leader

Voice & Piano Teacher

I have been teaching private voice and piano from my home, and sometimes in private schools and studios, for 13 years. I’ve have long maintained the belief that my teaching is just as much a part of my ministry as my work in the church. I have been given the gift of encouragement and I have found so many opportunities to put my gift to good use. Encouragement literally means to “add courage” and that is what I want to do for my students. Not once will you hear me say “you can’t do it”. It’s just not in my vocabulary. I once read somewhere that encouragement is “like oxygen to the soul”. I believe that and I look forward to helping you breath life into you dreams.

What to Expect

Voice – Voice students can choose the type of music they would like to work on, but they will also do some classical work, as well. We will do extensive work in vocalization and we will work in the Vaccai method book. Improvisation is encouraged in the proper venue (i.e. pop, jazz, country, show tunes). Performance skills are also a part of my curriculum. There is always a recital in May of each year.

Piano – I excel in teaching the young beginner, the older beginner, and the adult who has always wanted to play but never got the chance. I also do well in picking up where another teacher has left off. I like to use the Faber series but I can work with whatever you have already started. As the student progresses we also work on learning the primary chords from each key and then take that information and apply it to playing from a chord chart or lead sheet. This is something every pianist needs today. I like to move fast, but I will never rush a student who needs to hang out in a lesson for a little longer. We have a recital every year in May.
